Coaches,
The OCBCF has a mission to support scholastic chess in the Coastal Bend. It cannot possibly reach every child and that is why your role is so important. We can help you though.
- We can provide equipment for your team. Please send a letter to cctintera@yahoo.com stating at which school your chess club meets and provide your contact information and we can provide some equipment to get your team going!
- We know that chess is a game your students will play for life. It will keep their attention through their lives. The cost of learning chess is an investment that will pay out as a child grows. We also know that you have some students who would hesitate to lay out the cost of a US Chess? membership. There are three programs that can help your students.
- Our Fall Beginners' Tournament is a 3 for 1 deal. Students who have never played in a USCF rated tournament can play in two tournaments and get a year's membership in the USCF for the cost of a single tournament.
- If you teach at a Title I school, The US Chess Trust has a Chess-For-Youth program that can help your students. Please see their flyer. Contact us at cctintera@yahoo.com for help in completing their paperwork.
- We know that there are kids not in Title I schools that still need help. The OCBCF can help. If you have a student for whom a first time membership in the US Chess Federation would be a financial hardship, but is willing to commit to playing 3 or more tournaments in the coming year, the OCBCF will pay their membership. Please have them fill out a (linked) voucher and submit it with their first rated tournament flyer. They will still need to pay for the tournament, but the OCBCF will pay for the membership.
