Minutes 23 October 2005
Attending George Tintera, Dan DeLeon, Augustine Rivera, Chris Villarreal, Cris DeLeon, Bob James, Lucy James, Elma Salazar, Judy Winston, Ninfa Villarreal, Randy Ramirez, New members from George Evans Elementary. Absent: Ken Muir, Secretary.
Old Business
- Shamrock Classic had 95 Participants. Lucy James was on the computer and Ken Muir was the chief TD.
- The Chula Vista tournament had 156 players. Dan Deleon was chief TD and Cris Deleon was on computer. There were a few glitches. All TD's are reminded to keep reading the rulebook. Scorekeepers must not respond to questions about the rules of chess and instead defer them to a TD on the floor.
- Judy Winston reported that trophies were ordered for Wynn Seale.
- Eddie Rios reported that Robstown was yet to order trophies for the Nov 19 tournament, but all else was underway.
- Randy Ramirez reported that cards for the OCBCF to provide wifi access cost $70, while cards providing cell phone access cost $200 plus $70 per month. There was a motion to authorize George Tintera to purchase a wifi access card for no more than $70. It passed unanimously.
- Share Your Christmas will be held by the Windsor Park Elementary Chess Club at St. Pius X Parish Hall on Dec. 10. The size of the parish hall may limit the number of participants.
New Business
- Eddie Rios announced that there would be a TD tournament on Sunday, November 06, 2005 in Kingsville.
- There was discussion about supporting the first time enrollment as USCF members. The motion that the OCBCF pay for the memberships of 5-6 students of George Evans Elementary was made, seconded and passed unanimously. The motion that the OCBCF form a committee to investigate the extent to which it can support other new memberships and if necessary develop a procedure for choosing new members to support was made, seconded and passed unanimously. Ninfa Villarreal volunteered to chair the committee.
- 8 chess sets were delivered to the chess club of George Evans Elementary.
- There was discussion about general liability insurance. Bob James pointed out that the OCBCF was covered for general liability when it was under the Downtown Optimists Club. A motion was made to investigate sources and cost for such insurance. Augustine Rivera volunteered to make the investigation.
- There was discussion about home schooled tournaments. A motion that homeschooled students be allowed to participate as members of their neighborhood school team was made, seconded and passed unanimously.
- Tournaments for Spring were discussed after George Tintera parted and the meeting was run by Dan DeLeon. The tentative schedule for tournaments to be added to the spring schedule is:

The next meeting is scheduled for November 13, 2005 at 2 PM at the Susan Polgar South Texas Chess Center.
