OCBCF
Minutes Of 92505

Location: Susan Polgar Chess Center.

Present (officers): George Tintera, President; Ken Muir, Secretary; Dan DeLeon, Chris Villarreal, Treasurer. Absent: Augie Rivera, 2d VP. Also present: Eddie Rios, Bob and Lucy James, Cris DeLeon, Randy and Wilma Ramirez, Rebecca Flanigan, Charlene Tintera, Ninfa Villarreal, Elma Salazar.

George Tintera brought the meeting to order at 2:00.

Beginner’s tournament: 136 players attended. One coach did not have money, had told kids to bring the money which caused an issue. Solution is to get money with registration.

Calallen tournament: Several issues were discussed. Issue 1: Repairing during first round. The issue is in part whether to repair when players aren’t present at the beginning of the round, or instead to take a forfeit win. Motion was passed without objection: “No repairing shall take place during any round at OCBCF tournaments absent exigent circumstances.” Issue 2: TD’s improperly encouraging stalemates or draws. It was noted that TDs need more training, and the section chief or Chief TD needs to adequately oversee other TDs on the floor. Issue 3: Players failing to record a forfeit loss on the score. It was noted that the score keepers need to be taught to record a forfeit loss with an “F” on both players if that was the situation. Issue 4: Deducting time for not notating. The Chief TD will continue to encourage notation at upcoming tournaments by announcing deducting time among middle and high school and possibly elementary for not notating. Issue 5: Was a bit warm at the tournament. Issue 6: “Pairings up” were not announced throughout all skittles area. Resolution: Chief TD needs to make sure persons putting up pairings adequately spread the word.

It was noted that players need to request a ½ point bye by the second round, after that is a 0 point bye, and byes once requested are irrevocable.

Motion was made by Lucy, passed with out objection that OCBCF should investigate getting a wireless internet card for OCBCF computer. Randy Ramirez will look into this.

Baker middle school will be requesting donation of some chess sets for their chess club (Charlene). Discussion ensued about how to encourage CCISD to facilitate the chess clubs and provide support and facility use. Possibly getting a group of parents to contact the school board or letters to the editor.

Chula Vista tournament on October 1: Chief TD is Dan, Computer pairings is Chris, Ken will be chief TD Elementary [but understood will have to leave TD duties when Sarah/Robert are finished playing], George chief TD primary, Eddie chief TD middle/high school, Randy help as TD, others who will assist are unknown at present.

St Patricks Tournament: Rebecca will obtain list of section chief TDs and forward to Ken who will be chief TD. Score table is staffed. Norma will assist as floor TD as possible, others who will assist are unknown at present. Lucy will do pairings. George will drop off equipment Friday before tournament so it can be set up.

Finance: Chris V. has no report at present, working on getting bank signatures squared away. George bought 100 sets and pieces, $158 was paid to IRS, will work on seeing if accountant says it can be refunded. May need to order new boards.

Randy discussed Share Your Christmas tournament. Will need to decide by October 23 if Windsor Park can host this tournament or not or what site will be used.

Next OCBCF meeting is October 23rd at Polgar Center, 2:00 pm.

I hereby declare that the foregoing is a true and correct rendition of the minutes of the OCBCF meeting which occurred on this the 25h of September, 2005.
