OCBCF
Minutes Of December 2007

In attendance: Chris Villarreal, George Tintera, Bob James, Ken Muir, Sandy Riggs, Eddie Rios, and an observer apparently looking for the F4 square wandered in temporarily ("Bird's Opening").

Location: St. Patrick Parish Hall.

The meeting was called to order at 2:05 p.m. by George Tintera, President.

The minutes of the meeting of November, 2007 were passed by motion of Bob James, seconded by Ken Muir, unanimously accepted.

Treasurer's report and financial update by Chris Villarreal. Chris explained the financial details of the tournaments to date and passed out financial sheets, as well as expenses and 2007 deposits. The balance as of the date of the meeting was $20,608.62, a slight decline from the October 31, 2007 balance of $21,188.58, which is in keeping with the nonprofit status.

Old business: Chris will look into getting a first aid kit and a P.A. system. Past chess tournaments: The Kingsville Shootout was reported by Eddie to have gone well but to have had a low turnout at 47 players. Eddie is considering hosting his Secondary Championships in Corpus Christi in order to get more players. George reported that the Share Your Christmas tournament had 127 players, and some discussion ensued about a couple of tournament rulings and lessons learned. Chris reported that the Texas Grades in the Woodlands was enjoyable, and Ken reported that four players from Flour Bluff attended the National Grades in Houston but did not receive an exemption on attendance.

Chula Vista will not hold a January tournament but might consider an April date.

Upcoming tournaments: Flour Bluff will hold a January 26 tournament, flier on the site. Ken reported that Jerry Wiser said he could produce the trophies for about $500. Ken will be the chief TD and will solicit any available assistance. Although the flier states that the unrated section is for players ages 5-99, he said that exceptions will be made to the published age limitations upon request.

Sandy discussed the Collegiate High School tournament which will be held at Del Mar. It might be renamed to avoid any perception that it is limited to high school students, possibly the "Royals" tournament.

Motion was made by Bob James, seconded by Ken Muir and passed without objection, that for the upcoming Secondary Championships, OCBCF will pay $150 or $5 per player, which ever is greater, up to a total of $250, to Eddie Rios, to defray trophy expenses.

Discussion ensued regarding a tournament directors' tournament to get games in. Bob might be able to host it in early January, and Ken might be able to host it in the last week of December. Ken mentioned he would circulate an email to see if there was any interest in a TD tournament the last Friday in December (28th).

No discussion was had regarding the date of the next meeting.

I hereby declare that this is a true and correct rendition of my notes of the meeting held on December 15, 2007.

                                                                            Signed /Ken Muir/OCBCF member
