
Minutes of February 12, 2006 OCBCF Regular Meeting
Location: Susan Polgar Chess Center. Present (officers): George Tintera, President; Ken Muir, Secretary; Dan De Leon, 1st VP; Augie Rivera, 2d VP. Absent: Chris Villarreal, Treasurer. Also present: Rebecca Flanigan, Eddie Rios, Dan and Cris De Leon, Randy Ramirez, Ted Gonzalez, Roy Robinson, Elma Salazar, Noe Saldana Jr., Charlene Tintera, Bob & Lucy James.
George Tintera brought the meeting to order at 2:05.
Old business:
Augie discussed TD shirts, will look into it further. Augie is taking action to correct the franchise situation with the Texas secretary of state. Augie received an annual insurance quote from Swanter Gordon of $1,250. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed that Augie enter OCBCF into an insurance policy as quoted.
New business:
Lucy discussed her efforts to explore the option of bringing a state girls tournament to Corpus. Lucy stepped down from the project due to concerns about viability of same. No one offered to assume the project.
Bob mentioned he is still attempting to meet with the convention center along with Charlene, schedule permitting regarding a state scholastic tournament.
Eddie discussed Region VII tournament briefly, it went well without problems. Dan discussed girl's national. Ethical situations at the state tournament were discussed briefly by Eddie.
Eddie discussed the Bishop tournament, turnout was disappointing with 34 players. The sponsor did not break even. Reasons for low turnout were discussed by the group.
Ken discussed the upcoming FB tournament on Feb. 18, including section assignments.
Discussion was had concerning switching tournaments around between April dates, between Eddie and IWA. No date was set for IWA yet. George will update the tournament sections as indicated when Flyers are received. For April 1 Girls Regional, Rebecca will submit another flyer to be placed on the site with an open section for girls/women outside the region to attend. Eddie procured a Texas A&M scholarship for that tournament.
Treasurers Report: Chris Villarreal submitted treasurers report showing a balance as of 12/31/2005 of $21,594.09. The balance as of 7/29/05 was $21,397.05. Robstown and Region VII tournaments are pending information.
Discussion was had regarding a TD workshop, possibly during the summer. Also regarding posting results on the website, and posting a set of OCBCF tournament rules on the web site. Bob will get a list of tournament rules from the state tournament and look into modifying them.
March 26 is the next meeting.
