In attendance: Chris Villarreal, George Tintera, Sandy Riggs (by phone--latter part of meeting), Bill Wheeler and Ken Muir.
Location: Tintera residence.
The meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by George Tintera, President.
The minutes of the meeting of December, 2007 were passed by motion of Chris Villarreal, seconded by Ken Muir, unanimously accepted.
Treasurer's report and financial update by Chris Villarreal. Chris explained the financial details of the tournaments to date and passed out financial sheets, as well as expenses and 2007 deposits. There was a December 2007 statement, a January 2008 statement, and a February 2008 statement. The balance as of the date of the meeting was $20,048.45 (balance as of January 31, 2008), and Chris mentioned that he had just deposited money from Wynne Seale and was still waiting on fees from Windsor Park and the Royals tournament.
Old business: Flour Bluff January tournament: Ken mentioned that the T Ds did a great job and he really appreciated assistance from Eddie on the computer. He mentioned that the lowering of the fee to $10 for the rated section in exchange for the trophy support from OCBCF (which ended up costing $475.50 from Jerry Wiser) helped encourage attendance at the tournament. The $5 for an unrated section also drew about 35 players who mostly had not played in tournaments before.
The Laredo Region tournament was reported by Chris and Ken to have gone well. The T Ds in charge of the tournament operated a bit differently in terms of how they posted pairings and wall charts. It had a well attended high school section and Robert Muir tied for first place with a player from Laredo, Carlos Ortiz.
Sandy reported that the Royal tournament went well, the location was terrific.
New business and upcoming tournaments:
The March Madness tournament will be held March 29th. Apparently the coastal bend secondary will be held April 5. Eddie is running these. Sandy mentioned April 19 as a possible date for the Shamrock Classic and is looking for a location. She will check with the St. Theresa Catholic retreat for a facility as St. Patrick's is not available. She expressed a worry that the St. Patricks club will not continue next year if no parents remain with knowledge about running tournaments.
The IWA tournament is upcoming also but Augie was not reachable by phone to discuss. The Perez tournament appears to be a no go.
Sandy made a motion to get reimbursed "to the extent possible" for trophy expenses her club incurred of $1300. She said she did not realize that Jerry Wiser would have been cheaper and did not know how to contact him.
The next meeting will be held on April 6, and Sandy is checking on availability of the St. Patricks Parish hall. The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
I hereby declare that this is a true and correct rendition of my notes of the meeting held on March 9, 2008.
