OCBCF
Minutes Of March 2009

Attending: Chris Villarreal, Ninfa Villarreal, Bob James, George Tintera, Charlene Tintera, Bill Wheeler, Augie Rivera.

Location: The Rivera's house.

The meeting was called to order by President Rivera at 2 PM.

The minutes from the previous meeting were unanimously approved.

Mike Wallett (the treasurer) was not present, so the Treasurer's report was postponed.

Past Tournaments

The Shamrock Classic was well attended. An issue arose over a bye. It is important to keep a record of who has byes and that parents acknowledge and confirm them.

The State Tournament was held in Mc Allen?. It was a nice tournament in a beautiful venue. Bob James said that State is scheduled for Feb 20 and 21 in 2010, and that regions are allowed to hold their tournaments after state because of the early date.

The beginner tournament held at Oak Park was run by Rey Contreras and hosted by Oak Park and Efrain Gomez. It was good to see another group active and another site for hosting tournaments.

Upcoming Tournaments

The Coastal Bend Secondary Championships will take place this coming Saturday, April 11. Entries are due to Eddie Rios ASAP.

It was noted that the Coastal Bend Grades Championships to be held at Incarnate Word Academy in Corpus Christi on April 25 will conflict with the Kasparov Invitational. There will be a flyer available for the Grades tournament up soon.

Additional upcoming tournaments are

The OCBCF will post information about traditionally held tournaments on the draft 2009/2010 tournament schedule and invite schools to consider which of these or other tournaments they would like to host and when. The schedule will be discussed at the annual meeting in June.

Old Business

  1. It seems as though summer may be the best time to arrange TD training. It will be announced to all with current and recently-expired club TD status.
  2. Bob James reported that he had an agreement to get the boards printed and just needs a check to send. (from the Feb meeting: There was a motion, unanimously approved, that Bob James be authorized to order 200 boards, appropriately decorated and labeled. )

New Business

  1. The Annual Meeting of the OCBCF will take place on June 20, time and location are TBA.
  2. Bill Wheeler pointed out that the USCF is both plaintiff and defendant in several lawsuits at this time. The OCBCF has no resolution at this time but encourages members to keep informed on the matters. See http://main.uschess.org/content/view/9240/520/ and http://main.uschess.org/content/view/9226/365 and http://www.uschess.org/legalupdates/Site/Index.html

The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 pm.

The next meeting will take place April 25 at 2 PM at the Rivera's house.

I hereby declare that this is a true and correct rendition of my notes of the meeting held on April 5, 2009.

          George Tintera, OCBCF Secretary
