Past Tournaments
The Kasparov Tournament was held in Dallas with teams from around the country. Amanada Villarreal (10th place in her division), Treasure Connolly, Sahdai Quireshi, and Sierra Villarreal represented the Coastal Bend. Please advise if you have information on these or other players from our area. Questions were raised about accommodations made to some teams with many players in small sections and their impact on other players.
The Coastal Bend Secondary Championships were held in Kingsville at the Knights of Columbus Hall on April 11. Benjamin Tintera (Middle School) and Eugene Martinez (High School) were the champions. The turnout for the title event was modest, but there was a side event that was well attended.
Upcoming Tournaments
Tournaments scheduled by Oak Park and Christ the King were cancelled for various reasons, including the pending flu epidemic and the proximity of the end of the school year.
(At the time,) The Coastal Bend Grades Championship Tournament was to be rescheduled.
As previously announced, the OCBCF will post information about traditionally held tournaments on the draft 2009/2010 tournament schedule and invite schools to consider which of these or other tournaments they would like to host and when. The schedule will be discussed at the annual meeting in June.
