OCBCF
Minutes Of November 2007

In attendance: Ninfa and Chris Villarreal, Claudia Pichardo, George & Charlene Tintera, Bob James, Wesley G. Anderson, Ken Muir, Augie and Julie Rivera.

Location: Augie Rivera residence.

The meeting was called to order at 2:05 p.m. by George Tintera, President.

The minutes of the meeting of October, 2007 were passed by acclamation.

Chris Villarreal presented a written assessment of the OCBCF tournament expenses to date including Beginner's, Girls State, Fall Classic and Wynn Seale tournaments from fall of 2007. The Beginner's tournament showed a surplus of $350 but that information will be adjusted downward when other information about new membership costs and other expenses are factored in. The Girls State tournament is awaiting reimbursement from Kingsville Chess Academy (Eddie Rios), who is in turn awaiting payment from Collegiate High School. Eddie was contacted by phone and he said that each of the three entities involved (OCBCF, South Texas Chess Center and Kingsville Chess Academy) will make a profit of approximately $93. The Fall Classic tournament is awaiting payment from Collegiate High School but made a profit of approximately $365. There was no data on Wynn Seale yet.

The current OCBCF balance was approximately $21, 471.99.

Old Business: Augie Rivera is working on making TD badges to be worn with Lanyards. A sound system will be purchased for approximately $500 by Ninfa.

New business: Charlene announced that the A&MCC Chess Club can host up to one tournament a month using the school facilities for free. Chula Vista (Claudia) is searching for a site for possibly January 12 (policemen/fireman hall) or possibly A&MCC in February.

Augie mentioned a medical emergency kit should be acquired. Ninfa will look into that with a $50 budget. Augie also suggested OCBCF members become CPR certified perhaps at a future meeting. She will also acquire a "for deposit only" stamp.

The Share Your Christmas tournament sponsored by Windsor Park at St. Pius will be Chief TD'd by Charlene.

The Primary/Elementary Championships tournament at Flour Bluff in January 2008 will have a K-1 section as well as an unrated section(s) in addition to the primary/elementary sections. The entry fee will be lower than customary ($10 rather than $15) and OCBCF will pay for the trophies. OCBCF will discuss a similar arrangement with the middle/high school championship organizer.

A connection has been made with someone at the Caller Times which may enable the organization to obtain a free advertisement for upcoming tournament(s) and this will be pursued by George.

There will be a TD tournament held during the week after Christmas, date to be determined, and Bob James will hold a TD teaching session on a different date.

IWA will host the Grades tournament in May.

The next meeting will be on December 2d, and Ninfa will check into having the meeting at St. Patrick's.

I hereby declare that this is a true and correct rendition of my notes of the meeting held on November 4, 2007.

                                                                            Signed /Ken Muir/OCBCF member
